Headaches/Migraine
The top part of the neck can cause headaches and migraine. This is assessed by careful history taking and a detailed physical assessment of the upper neck joints and muscles. This helps differentiate between tension headaches and neck-related headaches.
For headaches caused by the upper neck joints and muscles, a skilled physio can reproduce your headache (or related symptoms) and then be able to stop the reproduction of symptoms. This confirms where the problem is coming from. If you already have a headache, comparable signs are found such as extremely sensitive joints that when mobilised or stretched, headache reduces. Sometimes people have had headaches for many years and it has greatly affected quality of life. To have the fog lift from your head after treatment can give you a new lease on life.
In complex cases, we work with your doctors to improve all physical factors than we can modify and sometimes then the medications your doctor may prescribe can work more effectively. When headaches are not directly caused by the upper neck, working with your doctor is very important for us.
